Group Communication

As you can see from this picture, a photographer is taking a picture of two cowboys hard at work. From my perspective, they are either doing this for a living or its their hobby during their leisure time.
But whatever it is, it depicts communication as a group.

Trenholm (2004)- "A group is a collection of individuals who,as a result of interacting with one another over time, become interdependent, developing shared patterns of behaviour and a collective identity."

We can see that they are working hand in hand to repair or fix something that is to do with the wires.
This would require interdependence because one action by any one of them would affect the outcome or result.
Interaction would be the other obvious sign that two or more people display, when they are part of a team.
Being a small team of two, we can see that communication is direct and the participation level is equal to provide sufficient support for one another.

Should any of them face any problem, the other will have to take up the maintenance role to enhance the social climate of the group.
Some of which would include, being 1) an encourager. 2) harmoniser. 3) compromiser. 4) gatekeeper-expediter. 5) standard setter. 6) group observer. 7) follower.

I totally agree with your point in regards to the photo depicting communication as a group. Personally, i feel that communication is very important in a group. Team mates in the same group have to communicate with each other to ensure the success of whatever they are striving to achieve.

Bad communication and interaction will only lead to the failure of the task. I like the way you categorize the different members of a group as 1) an encourager etc... 7) follower. It goes to show that each and everyone in a group has a different role to play and every role is just as important.

Cheers~

hey there!
I was Google-ing on the importance of teamwork and I chanced upon this very interesting statement "Teamwork as a concept has grown over the last 20 years. However, teamwork success is not automatic. Teams have to be established for the right reasons. Team member selection is very important, as is ensuring that the team purpose is clear and agreed upon." by Derek Stockley. This statement wraps up your post ain't it?
How true that team work is important and communication in teamwork is EVEN more important!

We, as humans, can never survive if we lived like an island. Since the day we were born, we have been living in groups called - family.

Assignments and jobs can be done sooner and with less effort if each group member is cooperative enough. Each member must do their part for the task to be finished, just like every bit of mechanical parts work to get a machine moving.

I agree with this post. I believe that communication gets people connected in their mindsets and actions. Its always common to see similarities in a group, be it co workers or friends. As when a group gets together and share the same focus they create an environment or rather an identity which seperates them from the rest which the post describes as developing shared patterns of behaviour and a collective identity.

It is important to have a group as when one falls or lacks in an area the other is able to lift or fill it up for him and its when this happens that a group will extend to its full potential.

everyone in a group or team has their own specific and specialised roles to play. Surely, there will be a leader, a planner, followers, encourager/mediater and many more depending on the size of the group. some may play double roles too. Communication is one of the most crucial factor in a group!

no man is an island. this saying is true, at least for me. In our everyday lives, there will always be people around. How can anyone never ever communicate with others? thats rather ridiculous.
